The Collection Attorneys Association of Wichita was founded in 1990 and has met every month since that time.  The association is made up primarily of attorneys in Wichita who practice in the area of debt collection.

    The group serves to improve the practice of debt collection law in Sedgwick County and the surrounding area by sponsoring a discussion of issues of importance, working closely with the court and clerk, and promoting a professional attitude in the practice of debt collection law.

    The association meets the third Monday of every month at noon in the meeting rooms of the Wichita Bar Association.  Annual dues are $25 payable on July 1.

    The Topeka Area Collection Bar was founded by Kent Hollins and Walt Scott in the early 1990's in response to increasing delays and problems with the processing of court documents by the clerk's office in Shawnee County.  These problems had arisen over the preceding years because of the explosive growth in the filing of cases under Chapter 61 coupled with a lack of funding to allow the clerk's office to add new personnel to keep up with the pace.

    The group came together to develop uniformity in procedures between the attorneys' offices and the court to help improve the way cases and court paperwork was processed.

    Thanks in part to the work of this association, an Electronic Filing Project was implemented in Shawnee County in 1997 which allows new cases in Chapter 61 and subsequent filings thereunder to be filed by computer with the clerk's office.  It is hoped that this project will serve as a model for similar projects throughout the state.

   The group meets regularly on the second Wednesday of each month in the Shawnee County District Court
Division 6 conference room , and has about 25 dues paid members.  CLE is available at nearly every meeting.  Annual dues are $50.00.
